Respones to Chapter 3

For students to be successful learners they must be motivated. If we as teacher understand why the knowledge the students and learning is important, than we will be able to motivate students in their learning.

Demonstrate strategies for student to use while learning. Do not assume students know how to do the activities, and assignments that are assigned. Give the students strategies.

  2. I agree that motivating students is very important. They need to be interested in the material to be learned in able to reap the full benefits of it. Teachers can motivate students by using manipulatives to hook them into the lesson from the start. Motivating students is simply encouraging them. If students are constantly encouraged, there is no limit to what they can and will achieve.

  3. As teachers we are "models" for our students. If we show interest in material that we teach, that is the first stepping stone to having a child want to become motivated. From there we can encourage them and use techniques/manipulatives to "hook them into the lesson" as DeShenia said.

You are absolutely right; we should never just assume our students will know how to accomplish the task at hand. Again, we as teachers should model what is expected from the students during assignments before releasing the task onto the students.

  4. I agree that motivating students is one of the greatest keys to student success. Students should be encouraged and motivated to achieve their full potential. It is very important as a teacher to establish the validity and relativity of the content you present to your students. They are more susceptible to learning if they understand why they are learning specific information and how it relates to them on a personal level. It is also essential to demonstrate different strategies of learning to students. They must be taught each strategy before they are able to use it and incorporate it into their personal learning experiences.
